what's your favorite source for 8bit sounds? do you use any vst/au's or is it all just samples?
all vst’s, save for a handful of rare instances where I do sample a video game but I haven’t done that in over a year.

That picture was part of a project for my buddy Daniel’s photography class in college. I’ve modeled for quite a few of his assignments and some of the pictures turned out really well. His work is mostly dark-room stuff. He’ll mess with the film to get some crazy results. Jonwayne - Running Back [Gucci Mane Rework]
Jonwayne dropped his “Remixes are Things” EP not long ago and I’ve been meaning to throw one of his Gucci Mane reworks up on the blog for a while.
Gucci Mane is an interesting character: jail time, a stint in a psych ward, ice cream cone face tattoos, pushing people out of moving vehicles, more jail time—and I can’t stop listening to his music. His latest album, The Return of Mr.Zone 6, was a bit of a hot mess in my opinion, but Gucci still has talent ~somewhere under all that crazy~. I welcome most Gucci remixes/reworks as they usually highlight Gucci at his best and this Jonwayne rework is no different.
Jonwayne released his full-length “Bowser” on Alpha Pup Records just last month—cop it if you’re into instrumental hip hop and Nintendo vibes..yes, that Bowser. If you frequent the Low End Theory night in Los Angeles than this name is all too familiar; Jonwayne has been tearing through those Wednesday nights like it’s nobody’s business. He’s got skill like no other and that’s undeniable.
Easily prefer this rework over the original Running Back (2009) in which Gucci’s vocals are competing with a loaded (in a bad way) beat.. Jonwayne puts it all into balance with this rework.

Depends if they’re good or not, and if they are adding to the overall strength of the track and not just tacking themselves onto it. there’s a lot that goes into that kind of shit.
